How do custom covers work?
To request a custom design, you will fill in the form on the Order/Purchase page to register your interest. Saruuh of Cosmos Cover Design will respond to your email within a week and you will begin the process of building your cover. You will be able to specify exactly what you want in your cover design and specifications, or if you're not sure, CCD will be able to guide you. You will be asked to complete a cover brief (a questionnaire) which will help Saruuh get a better understanding and feel for your book.
Once you have provided a brief (idea), Cosmos Cover Design will produce multiple mock designs for you to consider, and you will be able to choose for Saruuh to work on one of those or go back to the drawing board. This will continue until you are happy with the direction of your cover.
When you are happy with the mock, Saruuh will then finalise and complete the design of your cover to a professional standard. Once this stage is complete, you will only be able to alter minor elements - fonts, size, placement etc. Stock images will not be able to be changed once you have agreed upon a final design.
How long do custom covers take?
Custom Ebook covers take up to four days following agreement of final cover. Custom paperback covers take up to a week following agreement of final cover, though you will likely hear from me in that time to request your opinion on elements of the cover we may have not yet discussed (the spine design for example).
How long do premade covers take?
Once CCD has all the information you require on the cover, most premade ebook covers can be finalised and emailed to you within a matter of hours. Premade paperback covers may take up to 24 hours.
How long do web banners/ads take?
Less than two days after Saruuh has all the information and any images of what you want on your design. Most times your banner will be ready within a day. Social Media Combo designs may take up to four days.
How do I pay for my order?
Payments for all orders are made via Paypal. Please be aware that since CCD only uses Paypal for payment options, you won't be able to purchase a cover if you don't have a Paypal account. Once you've approved and accepted any final designs, refunds won't be available. CCD believes that you have plenty of time to alter the design before that point.
What if I'm not happy with my design?
If you're not 100% happy and don't intend to use your cover BEFORE we have agreed upon a final design, Cosmos Cover Design will not charge you a penny. You will not be able to use the cover image (applies to both premade and custom designed) and all premade designs will be reuploaded to our website for someone else to purchase. If you do use a cover you have not purchased, this may give rise to a claim for damages and/or be a criminal offence.
Will anyone else be able to buy the same ebook cover design?
Nope. When you purchase a cover from CCD it is removed from the site and will not be available for purchase again.
What size will my cover be?
All ebook covers are 1600px x 2400px, a cover size accepted by most ebook retailers. This size can be adjusted if you need - just ask. All paperback covers are designed to your specifications.
What format will my cover be?
All our ebook covers are in JPEG format. All paperback wraparound covers are in JPEG and PDF format.
Can premade covers be reserved?
Yep! CCD is happy to reserve covers for up to a week. After that time, you'll need to complete your order for CCD to continue to reserve it for you. If an order isn't completed, the cover will be reuploaded to the website.
Do I own the rights to the photograph used in the cover design?
No. Because we use stock images the photograph rights belong to the original photographer.
Are there any restrictions on my cover?
Very few. Once you've accepted your final cover, you can do whatever you like with it. It's your design now. You can sell up to 250,000 copies of your book before any restrictions come into play. If you sell more than this, please let us know, since we'll have to alter the stock licensing (fees will incur for extended licensing, since this is beyond our control and legally necessary, sorry!)
Do you do cover redesigns?
Absolutely! Though if you don't have a PSD of your cover image, we will have to start anew with different stock images. We will still retain the feel and look of your cover unless you want a complete revamp. Custom prices apply to cover redesigns.
I don't live in the UK. Can CCD still design a cover for me?
Yep! Anyone in the world can purchase our book covers, since all payments are made via Paypal.
A NOTE ON PORTFOLIO AND SOCIAL MEDIA USE:Your cover design may be used for portfolio or promotional purposes on this website, CCD's social media websites, and Saruuh's twitter. If you don't want your cover to be used in this way, just send an email and I'll be sure to respect your wishes.
